Church
I have visited 3 churches since being here- Iglesia de Cristo, La Primera Bautista, and one whose name I don't recall. The first one is upbeat and well-attended, but I felt a little uneasy about something I couldn't pinpoint there. The second started an hour later than the door read and had about 10 members present. The service lasted 4 hours, and during the "Sunday school" time, (in the sanctuary, also lead by the pastor), there seemed to be quite a bit of disagreement over how to interpret the passage. The next week, after feeling somewhat discourage, I emailed again Ann Dye, whose name I encountered online this summer when searching for evangelical churches in the area. Later the same day, she emailed me back with contact names and numbers, including Steve Young, a missionary from Mississippi, who lives in Querretero (sp?), and Pepe, who leads a university ministry with his fiance (or soon to be), Yadira. Only by the work of God, the very next day, I was able to attend a church meeting (which moves from house to house to park because they don't have a building), and then have dinner with Steve who happened to be in town. All of the communication occured within eight hours! Ann had never even heard of Pepe before, and all the meetings were planned beforehand; it just worked out perfectly. I will be spending more time with Pepe and Yadira, and Steve invited me to visit him, his wife, and three daughters for a break sometime. After dinner, Steve and Pepe and I prayed for each other and all sat amazed at how the Lord had brought us together to challenge and encourage us!
