Los de Matamoros

I rode back to Gto with a group from Matamoros, a border town. At first, I wasn’t happy being crammed in the middle, back of a hot bus with closed windows and no air-conditioning. Also, I soon realized, the pastor and his wife had planned a few stops in Querétaro the city to visit some friends, and I had opted to go with this group in the first place so I could A) have a free ride, but B) get back sooner.

But God has a wonderful sense of humor, and I soon grew to really, really like this fun group of people. I sat between Moises and Daniel, who whom I chatted and joked around most of the trip. My gringa-ness was a continual joke, especially when I engaged the Mexican culture more specifically. For example, I joked about bargaining with a man selling vegetables with chile powder (they said as soon as a Mexican can talk, he learns how to bargain/”regatear.”) They also found it funny that I ate/love spicy foods. We really all kidded around quite a bit, but also talked about differences between our countries and differences in how we lived as believers. They have kind hearts and an interesting perspective on life.

Although I was sooo ready to get back home to Gto, I ended up hanging out with them the whole afternoon once we arrived and I walked around town with them for a while that night. I know that at least if I never see them here again on earth, I’ll see them in heaven one day. How neat it is to think about my brothers and sisters in Christ that I know around the world, and now, so many in Mexico, thanks to this conference!

What IS that over there?!?

Here I'm with Moi (Moises). He's shorter than I am, and he asked me to crouch a little. What he didn't know was that they were taking a shot of our whole bodies!!!

The pastor and his wife who droves us 4 hours in this van (which leaked on our luggage when it rained! ;) I wish I remembered their names...
